Princess Rapunzel Cake for a Birthday Girl

Princess Rapunzel cake!

Singing Happy Birthday to the Birthday Girl
 Happy Birthday Princess Audrey :)

I made this cake for my younger cousin's birthday. And everyone loved it! I made it using a Wilton dress cake pan http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?sku=2105-565 . It bakes with a hole in the center making it easy to slide a Barbie into it. I have made multiple of these cakes so I have a few tips and tricks I'd like to share!

Tips for the cake:

  • Use two batches of cake batter! Otherwise the cake will not rise enough and your Barbie's butt will show, Oh LaLa!
  • Do not over fill your pan, If the cake batter covers the center rod of the cake pan the center of your cake will not cook evenly. And thats no good...
  • Wrap your Barbie's legs in plastic wrap. If the Barbie is made out of hard plastic and her legs don't bend then you don't need to do this step, though if her legs are the softer plastic and bend it is best to wrap them to avoid any cake sticking to them afterwards.
  • When checking to see if your cake is baked all the way through don't use a small toothpick, that's wimpy and doesn't tell you much. I suggest using a skewer.
  • Don't forget to flour and butter your pan and conductor rod! I have done this... and it doesnt end well. I have thought to myself "Ohhh, nonstick spray will work just fine!" NO! No it will not! Just take the extra step and flour and butter your pan. Trust me.
  • Leave enough cooling time. This cake is a funky shape so it does take a decent amount of time to cool, so I recommend baking it the night before.
          and lastly...
  • The most obvious but always important advice of have fun with it! Do not take baking and decorating too seriously! Not everyone is super duper experienced and trained so don't beat yourself up if it doesn't come out perfect because the little things are what give it character. Whoever is receiving the cake will love it no matter what :)

Alright guys I hope these tips and tricks were helpful and will be useful when you make a Barbie cake! Enjoy baking!
